MELBOURNE - Oct 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge of high pressure lies along the east coast. A surface trough will move eastwards across southern Queensland during Monday and Tuesday. Hot conditions about central and southern districts will persist over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of SundayHot over the southern districts. The chance of some showers and storms over the southern districts and the Central Highlands, extending across to the coast south of about Yeppoon late in the day. Fine and sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over the eastern and northern districts, light to moderate westerly winds over the southern interior.Fire Danger - Severe over the Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Very high over parts of the southern, central and northern interior.Monday 27 OctoberThe surface trough should drift eastwards across the southern interior. Hot with elevated fire danger ahead of the trough over the southern interior and the southeast, and somewhat milder temperatures (but still above average) behind the trough in the far southwest. Showers and storms are possible in a broad band from the Central West down to the state's southeast. Fine in the rest of the state.Tuesday 28 OctoberThe surface trough should extend from the northwest of the state down to the southeast. Hot with elevated fire danger ahead of the trough, particularly over the state's southeast. Milder, but still above average temperatures behind the trough over the southern interior. Some showers and storms ahead of the trough in a broad band from the northwest down to the southeast of the state. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Wednesday 29 OctoberThe surface trough should shift northwards, producing a band of showers and storms from the Gulf Country down to the Capricornia and Wide Bay coasts. Warm to hot over the southeast and the central interior.Thursday until SaturdayThe surface trough should drift southwards to lie from the Northwest district down to the southeast of the state and should produce an associated band of showers and storms over the central interior and southeast districts late in the week.
