MELBOURNE - Oct 17/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. The ridge will gradually weaken during Sunday, before being reinforced by a new high pressure system that will move in to the Tasman Sea from Monday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayFine and sunny across much of the state with only some showers about the east coast and adjacent inland areas south of about Gladstone. A slight chance of some showers developing about the North Tropical Coast late in the evening. Moderate to fresh northeast to southeast winds.Fire Danger - Very high over the northern districts and the Central Highlands.Sunday 19 OctoberThe high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea with a firm ridge persisting along Queensland's east coast. Fine and sunny across much of the state. Some showers about the east coast, mainly about the central and northern coasts, particularly the Cassowary Coast. A slight chance of light showers about the southern coast south of Gladstone in the morning. Fine, dry and sunny over the remainder of the state.Monday 20 OctoberA new, strong high will move into the Tasman Sea late in the day, maintaining the firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A trough moving north from New South Wales may produce some showers near the southeast Queensland border late in the day. The chance of some mainly isolated showers about the east coast in an onshore flow. Fine and sunny over the interior. Warm in the southwest and southern interior.Tuesday 21 OctoberThe strong high in the Tasman Sea will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast. The onshore flow should lead to some showers about the east coast, particularly about the southern coast during the day. Fine and sunny over the interior. Warm in the southwest and southern interior.Wednesday until FridayA weak surface trough may drift eastwards across the southern districts late in the week, spreading showers and perhaps some thunderstorms over the southern interior as it progresses. A weak ridge should continue to push an onshore flow and some showers onto the tropical east coast.
