Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high near Tasmania will move east into the Tasman Sea late today, strengthening a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The high will remain slow moving during the weekend before weakening on Monday. A new, stronger high will then move into the Tasman Sea late Monday, strengthening the ridge further.
Forecast for the rest of FridaySome showers developing in the far southeast of the state during the afternoon and evening. Light showers through the far northern Peninsula, becoming less likely during the day. Possible showers near the west Peninsula and southern Gulf of Carpentaria coasts, with a slight chance of a storm late in the day. Fine and sunny elsewhere. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds with sea breezes about the coast.Fire Danger -  Very High about parts of the central and eastern interior.Saturday 18 OctoberThe high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Moist onshore winds will produce some showers through the southeast of the state from the coast to the ranges. Showers will also develop about the North Tropical coast late in the day. The interior of the state will remain fine and sunny.Sunday 19 OctoberThe high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea, with a firm ridge persisting along the east Queensland coast. Moisture will increase about the North Tropical Coast with showers becoming more likely. The Peninsula and remaining east coast districts have the slight chance of some showers. The interior of the state will remain fine and sunny, with maximum temperatures increasing in the far southwest of the state.Monday 20 OctoberThe new, stronger high will move east into the Tasman Sea late in the day. Moisture will decrease about the North Tropical Coast though some shower activity should persist. The central coast and Peninsula also have the slight chance of a shower due to the moist onshore flow. A trough moving north from New South Wales may produce some showers near the southeast Queensland border late in the day. Fine and sunny conditions are expected through the interior.Tuesday until ThursdayThe strong high in the Tasman Sea will start to weaken from late Wednesday while moving slowly east. Some showers will occur in the onshore flow near the east Queensland coast, becoming less likely from Thursday as the ridge weakens. A trough will move east over central Australia during Tuesday and Wednesday, most likely entering the southern interior of Queensland on Thursday. Warm conditions will spread through the southern interior in the northerly wind flow ahead of the trough, with possible showers or storms developing on Thursday as the trough enters the state.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
