Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over the Great Australian Bight will move slowly eastwards, maintaining a flow of cool, dry air over most of Queensland for the next couple of days. The high will enter the Tasman Sea from late Friday and become slow moving, strengthening a ridge along the east Queensland coast during the weekend with a fresh to strong onshore flow developing.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdaySome showers in the very far northern tropics with the chance of thunderstorms near the west Peninsula coast late in the day. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds with sea breezes about the coast.Friday 17 OctoberSome showers in the far southeast of the state, extending west to the Great Dividing Range late in the day. A slight chance of a shower near the west Peninsula and southern Gulf of Carpentaria coasts. Fine and sunny conditions through the interior with another cool morning expected. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds with sea breezes about the coast.Fire Danger - Very High about parts of the central and eastern interior.Saturday 18 OctoberThe high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Moist onshore winds will produce some showers through the southeast of the state from the coast to the ranges. Showers will also develop about the North Tropical coast late in the day. The interior of the state will remain fine and sunny.Sunday 19 OctoberThe high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea, with a firm ridge persisting along the east Queensland coast and the moist onshore flow resulting in the chance of showers through east coast districts and the northern tropics. Showers are more likely near the North Tropical Coast and should become frequent due to an upper trough moving north through the area. The interior of the state will remain fine and sunny, with maximum temperatures increasing in the far southwest of the state.Monday 20 OctoberA new high will move into the Tasman Sea late Monday and then remain slow moving through the outlook period. A firm ridge will therefore persist along the east Queensland coast. Some showers will persist about the east tropical coast in the onshore wind flow. An upper trough is expected to move north into southern Queensland on Tuesday, generating showers over the southeast. Instability will increase further through the southern interior of the state on Wednesday ahead of a trough approaching from the west, with possible showers or storms developing and warm conditions.Tuesday until ThursdayThe high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea through the outlook period. A firm ridge will therefore persist along the east Queensland coast. Some showers will persist about the east tropical coast in the onshore wind flow. An upper trough is expected to move north into southern Queensland on Tuesday, generating showers over the southeast. Instability will increase further through the southern interior of the state on Wednesday and Thursday ahead of a trough approaching from the west, with possible showers or storms developing and warm conditions. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
