MELBOURNE - Oct 14/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A small intense low pressure system is located off the New South Wales coast near Sydney and the Hunter district and moving slowly northwards with an associated trough. Damaging to locally destructive winds along the coastal fringe and some areas of heavy rainfall are extending along coast near the low. The low and trough will move slowly further offshore during Wednesday with an associated easing trend in the winds and weather. A high pressure system will move across southern New South Wales by Friday, bringing more generally more stable conditions for the later part of the week. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayHigh to very high chance of showers near the coast, decreasing through the day and mostly clearing by evening. Heavy rain possible about the Metropolitan, Hunter and southern Mid North Coast early in the morning. Slight to moderate chance of showers about the ranges and western slopes, clearing, with showers possibly falling as snow in the Alps above 1500 metres and on on the highest parts of the Central Tablelands in the morning. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds, strong to gale force along parts of the coastal fringe, creating dangerous surf conditions.Thursday 16 OctoberMedium to high chance of showers in the southeast, and a slight to medium chance of showers on the far north coast. Showers possibly falling as snow above 1600m late Thursday. Fine and mostly sunny remainder. Early frost patches possible on the ranges. Moderate southwesterly winds and afternoon coastal sea breezes.Friday 17 OctoberMedium chance of showers along coastal districts and Snowy Mountains, with a higher chance along the northern coast. Showers possibly falling as snow in the Alps above 1400 metres in the morning. Slight chance of showers along the ranges. Fine and sunny in the remainder. Moderate southwest to southeast winds.Saturday 18 OctoberSlight to medium chance of showers along the far north coast and adjacent ranges. Fine and sunny elsewhere.
