Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 14/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front is currently moving through northeastern parts of New South Wales, and is expected to move through the far north east this morning. A low pressure centre will develop within the front today somewhere offshore from the central part of the coast, and will intensify and move to be offshore from the Hunter or Mid North Coast by Tuesday night, bringing heavy rain and strong southerly winds to the central parts of the New South Wales coast. The low will slowly move further out into the Tasman Sea on Wednesday, with a high pressure system strengthening to the southwest. Winds and rain along the coast are likely to ease on Wednesday, however some coastal shower activity is likely to persist under the influence of an upper cool trough.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayVery high chance of rain over most of the coast, ranges and western slopes extending west to the Riverina and parts of the Central West Plains, with heavy falls possible from the South Coast to Hunter districts and moderate to heavy falls for the Central Tablelands. Rain falling as snow above 1300 metres in the Alps. Moderate to high chance of showers through the remaining western slopes and central west, although remaining fine in the far west. Fresh to strong south to southwesterly winds extending throughout by the afternoon, likely increasing to gale force along southern and central parts of the coast and creating dangerous surf conditions. Coastal erosion also possible for central parts of the coast.Fire Danger - Very High: Far North Coast.Wednesday 15 OctoberHigh chance of showers near the coast, decreasing through the day and mostly clearing by evening. Heavy rain possible about the northern Hunter and southern Mid North Coast early in the morning. Slight to moderate chance of showers about the ranges and western slopes, clearing, with showers possibly falling as snow in the Alps above 1500 metres in the morning. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds, strong to gale force along parts of the coastal fringe, creating dangerous surf conditions.Thursday 16 OctoberMedium chance of showers in the southeast, and possibly on the far north coast. Showers possibly falling as snow above 1500 metres late Thursday. Fine and mostly sunny remainder. Early frost patches possible on the ranges, particularly in the south. Moderate southwesterly winds and afternoon coastal sea breezes.Friday 17 OctoberMedium chance of showers along coastal districts and Snowy Mountains, possibly falling as snow in the Alps above 1400 metres in the morning.
