MELBOURNE - Oct 13/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system developing off the central New South Wales coast is combining with a high pressure system south of the Bight to bring a cold and gusty southerly airstream across the State. The low will be slow moving on Tuesday then move southeastwards over the Tasman Sea on Wednesday and Thursday. Meanwhile, the high will extend a ridge over southern Victoria, but this ridge will erode later on Wednesday as a cold front approaches and then move across Victoria during Thursday. The high south of the Bight will finally move steadily eastwards to cross Tasmania and southern Victoria on Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayShowers over the east increasing to areas of rain this evening. A medium to high chance of showers in remaining southern and mountain areas with local hail and thunder possible over western and central districts. Snowfalls down to 900 metres. A slight chance of showers over the northern plains. A cool to cold day with fresh southwest to southerly winds, strong about exposed coastal areas.Tuesday 14 OctoberMorning frost patches in the west. Rain in the east easing to showers during the morning, moderate falls over Gippsland. Medium chance of showers over remaining southern districts and dry over the northwest inland. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southerly winds, locally strong in the southeast and reaching gale force over Alpine regions.Wednesday 15 OctoberMorning frost patches in the west and north. A medium chance of showers across southern and mountain areas, decreasing in the afternoon though increasing again in the far southwest during the evening. Remaining dry north of the Dividing Range. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southerly winds.Thursday 16 OctoberMorning fog patches over the northern plains. A high chance of showers in southern and mountain districts, contracting north and east across the State during the afternoon, although grading to just a slight chance in the far northwest. Cool to mild with moderate south to southwesterly winds, fresher near the coast during the day.Friday 17 OctoberA high chance of shower over Gippsland grading to slight chance over remaining southern areas. Fine and mainly sunny over the northern inland. Mild in the south, warm in the north.
