Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 13/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough over eastern Victoria and a cold front crossing central parts of the State will move steadily eastwards today and form into a low pressure system as it moves off the central New South Wales coast on Monday night and Tuesday. This low will be slow moving on Tuesday then move southeastwards over the Tasman Sea on Wednesday and Thursday. During Tuesday a high strengthening in the Bight will extend a ridge over southern Victoria but this ridge will erode later on Wednesday as another cold front approaches from the Southern Ocean. The front will move across Victoria during Thursday morning then the high over the Bight will finally move steadily east towards Tasmania on Thursday night.
Forecast for the rest of MondayA very high chance of showers over the east, tending to rain during the day. A medium to high chance of showers in remaining southern and mountain areas and the northeast, with possible thunderstorms and hail over western and central districts. Snowfalls down to between 900 and 1100 metres. A slight chance of showers over the northern plains, mainly in the afternoon. A cool to cold day with fresh southwest to southerly winds, strong about exposed coastal areas.Tuesday 14 OctoberA high chance of rain in the southeast easing to showers during the day. Slight to medium chance of showers for the remainder but dry over the far northwest. Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southerly winds, locally strong in the southeast.Wednesday 15 OctoberA medium chance of showers across southern and mountain areas, easing in the afternoon though increasing again in the far southwest during the evening. Remaining dry north of the Dividing Range. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southerly winds.Thursday 16 OctoberMorning fog patches over the northern plains. A medium chance of showers in southern and mountain districts, easing from the west during the afternoon and contracting to the southeast by the evening. A medium chance of showers also north of the Dividing Range, mainly during the afternoon, though tending slight in the far northwest. Cool to mild with moderate south to southwesterly winds, fresher near the coast during the day.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Monday.Product IDV10310
