MELBOURNE - Oct 12/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A near-stationary high over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. A deep surface trough over the southern interior will drift slowly eastwards across the central and southern interior over the next few days, coupled with an upper trough. Forecast for the rest of SundayA medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms in a broad band from the central interior down into the southern and southeastern interior. Fine in the far southwest, the far northern tropics and most of the east coast, with the slight chance of showers and thunderstorms elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over the eastern districts. Mostly moderate northwest to southwest winds elsewhere, fresh and gusty at times.Fire Danger - Very High over the majority of the central and western districts.Monday 13 OctoberThe surface trough should drift into Queensland's eastern districts and will work with a new upper trough approaching from the west to produce a band of active showers and thunderstorms from the northwest, across the central and eastern districts and into the state's southeast quarter. Some rain areas about the southeast late on Monday. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state, with just the slight chance of a shower over the western Peninsula.Tuesday 14 OctoberThe surface trough is expected to move offshore during the day as a high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight pushes dry, cooler air across the interior. Showers, rain areas and thunderstorms ahead of the trough are likely for the southern central coast and southeast. Showers and thunderstorms are expected over the far north of state, with fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere.Wednesday 15 OctoberThe new high pressure system should keep most of Queensland fine, dry and mild. The chance of some showers and storms over the far north of the state.Thursday until SaturdayA ridge through Queensland is expected to keep most of the state fine, dry and mild. Showers and possible thunderstorms over the northern tropics through the outlook period. Showers are likely to return to eastern districts on Friday and Saturday, as a series of upper troughs interact with relatively humid air near the coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland Queensland's improving weather services --> Rainfall Forecast Terminology Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 05:00 on Sunday 12 October 2014 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2014, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
