Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 12/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system centred over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards northeast New South Wales, while a broad trough dominates the state's west. This pattern is drawing down warm northerly winds, which will strengthen today as a cold front approaches from the Southern Ocean. The front is set to affect the far southwest tonight, moving through central parts during Monday then continuing across the northeast on Tuesday, preceded by increasingly unsettled conditions in most districts. A low pressure centre developing within this system over the next day or so is forecast to deepen as it moves to the coast early Tuesday, bringing an increased the likelihood of heavy rainfall in some eastern districts, although this will be largely dependant on the position of the low. A vigorous cool change will also accompany the passage of this system, bolstered by a strengthening high to the west.
Forecast for the rest of SundayMedium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms west of the Divide, mostly in the afternoon, although generally fine near the SA border. A slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms elsewhere on the ranges and parts of the northeast, with mostly fine conditions near the coast. A few early fog patches in the east. Northeast to northwesterly winds, freshening along the coast and over the western inland during the day. A south to southwesterly change in the far west later in the day.Monday 13 OctoberVery high chance of rain in the southeast, with possible heavy falls. Medium to high chance of showers in most other areas, although generally fine in the far west. The chance of thunderstorms in eastern and central districts. Strengthening northwest to northeasterly winds ahead of a cooler, gusty south to southwesterly change spreading through the west and south.Tuesday 14 OctoberVery high chance of rain over most of the coast and ranges, and parts of the western slopes. Possible heavy falls, particularly over the Illawarra, Sydney, Hunter, and Mid North Coast districts. Moderate to high chance of showers through the western slopes and central west, although remaining fine in the far west. Fresh to strong south to southwesterly winds extending throughout by the afternoon, possibly increasing to gale force along parts of the coast and creating dangerous surf conditions.Wednesday 15 OctoberHigh chance of showers near the coast at first, although decreasing through the day. Slight to moderate chance of showers about the ranges and western slopes, clearing. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds, strong to gale force along the coast with dangerous surf conditions possible. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Sunday.Product IDN10031
