Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 11/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A near-stationary high over the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. A deep surface trough over the southern interior will drift slowly eastwards across the central and southern interior over the next few days, coupled with an upper trough.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayA medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms in a broad band from the central interior down into the southern and southeast interior. Some of these thunderstorms will be severe. Fine and partly cloudy for most other areas, with the chance of showers over the southern tropical interior. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over the eastern districts. Light to moderate northwest to southwest winds elsewhere.Sunday 12 OctoberA medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms in a broad band from the central interior down into the southern and southeast interior. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms elsewhere apart from the far southwest, the far northern tropics and most of the east coast. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over the eastern districts. Mostly moderate northwest to southwest winds elsewhere, fresh and gusty at times.Fire Danger - Very High over most of the interior.Monday 13 OctoberThe surface trough should drift into Queensland's eastern districts and will work with a new upper trough approaching from the west to produce a band of active showers and thunderstorms from the northwest, across the central districts and into the state's southeast quarter. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.Tuesday 14 OctoberThe surface trough is expected to move offshore during the day as a high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight pushes dry, cooler air across the interior. Areas of showers and thunderstorms ahead of the trough are likely for the southern central coast and southeast. Showers and thunderstorms are expected over the far north of state.Wednesday 15 OctoberThe new high pressure system should keep most of Queensland fine, dry and mild. The chance of some showers and storms over the far north of the state.Thursday until SaturdayA ridge through Queensland is expected to keep most of Queensland fine, dry and mild. Showers and possible thunderstorms over the northern tropics through the outlook period. Showers are likely to return to southeastern districts on Friday and Saturday, as a series of upper troughs interact with relatively humid air near the coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
