Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 10/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge of high pressure along the east coast of Queensland that will persist over the next few days as the high remains slow moving in the Tasman Sea. A surface trough should gradually deepen as it drifts slowly eastwards across Queensland's central and southern interior over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of FridayFine and mostly sunny across much of the state. The slight chance of showers and thunderstorms over the southern central west and southern interior. The slight chance of light showers on the tropical east coast. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over the eastern districts. Light to moderate northwest to southwest winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Very high over parts of the southern interior and inland parts of the northern tropics.Saturday 11 OctoberThe upper trough should drift towards the southern interior, whilst the surface trough strengthens beneath it, leading to a medium chance of showers and thunderstorms in a broad band from the central interior and into the southern and southeast interior. Fine and mostly sunny about most of the east coast.Sunday 12 OctoberThe surface trough should drift a little eastwards over the interior of the state and showers and storms will form near and ahead of it in a band from Queensland's far north, across the central interior and down into the state's southeast quarter. Much of the east coast should remain fine and mostly sunny. Fine and sunny in the far southwest.Monday 13 OctoberThe surface trough should drift into Queensland's eastern districts, and along with a new upper trough approaching from the west, should produce areas of showers and thunderstorms over the central and eastern districts and the far north. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.Tuesday until ThursdayUncertainty is reasonably high from Tuesday, however the most likely scenario is for showers and storms to remain over far northern Queensland and far eastern districts, as a series of upper troughs interact with relatively humid air near the coast. Fine, dry and mostly sunny over the interior. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
