Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 8/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high over southern Australia will move over the Tasman Sea from Thursday whilst extending a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A surface trough should deepen over Queensland's central and southern interior late in the week.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayClear across the state except for some cloudy periods and the chance of some light showers about the state's far southeast. Light to moderate southeast to southwest winds over the interior. Moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere, fresh at times about the southeast coast.Thursday 9 OctoberFine and mostly sunny except for the chance of some isolated light showers about the southeast and central coast regions. Moderate to fresh east to southeast winds about the far east, and light to moderate southeast to southwest winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Very high about parts of the northern interior and central interior districts.Friday 10 OctoberA new upper trough is likely to approach the southwest of the state, and will work with a surface trough to produce isolated showers and thunderstorms over the central west and southern interior. A ridge should push an onshore flow and isolated showers onto the tropical east coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Saturday 11 OctoberThe upper trough should drift towards the southern interior, whilst the surface trough strengthens beneath it, leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms in a broad band from the northern interior through the central interior and into the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny about most of the east coast except for a few isolated showers about the tropics.Sunday 12 OctoberThe surface trough should drift a little eastwards and showers and storms will form near and ahead of it in a band from Queensland's far north, across the central interior and down to the state's southeast quarter. Fine, dry and sunny in the far southwest.Monday until WednesdayThe surface trough should drift into Queensland's eastern districts, and along with a new upper trough approaching from the west, should produce areas of showers and thunderstorms over the eastern districts early in the new week. It's still to early to confidently pick the timing of a clearance, but the present information suggests that the showers and storms may contract clear most of the state by Wednesday, though they could linger over the southeast tropics. Fine, dry and clear over the remainder of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
