Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough will move east over the southeastern interior today before shifting west and weakening during Thursday. A high over southeastern Australia will move east into the Tasman Sea on Thursday, gradually extending a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A new trough system will most likely enter western Queensland late in the week, increasing instability through much of the state, particularly the interior.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers over the southeast during the afternoon and evening. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A hot day in the southeast with moderate to fresh westerly winds and sea breezes near the coast ahead of a cooler, south to southeasterly change extending from the south from the afternoon. Moderate to fresh southeast to southwest winds over the interior. Moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Very High about the southeast interior and parts of the tropical and central interior.Thursday 9 OctoberThe onshore wind flow near and to the south of the coastal trough shifting north into the Capricornia should generate some shower activity from the coast west to the ranges, with possible storms over the Capricornia nearer to the trough. The ridge should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions over remaining parts of the state apart from the chance of some showers developing near the east tropical and central coasts.Friday 10 OctoberA new upper trough is likely to approach the southwest of the state, increasing instability over areas to its east. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are therefore likely about parts of the central and southern interior east of about Windorah. A ridge should persist along the east coast with isolated showers expected in the onshore flow about the central and northern east coasts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere.Saturday 11 OctoberThe new upper trough is likely to move slowly east into the interior, increasing instability further over much of the state. Much of the interior of the state therefore has the chance of shower and thunderstorm activity, though a surface trough lying through the west should provide a particular focus for activity through the southern and central interior east of about Quilpie and the western Darling Downs. Mostly fine conditions are expected about the east coast with just the chance of showers near the central and far north tropical coasts.Sunday until TuesdayThe far southwest of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny during the outlook period. There remains some uncertainty about the development and movement of the trough system but it should continue to produce unstable conditions and generate some shower and storm activity over remaining parts of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDQ10700
