MELBOURNE - Oct 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weakening ridge extends along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough over the interior of the state will continue to move eastwards and is expected to contract off the southern Queensland coast on Wednesday. The surface trough will then move northwards into Capricornia waters on Thursday. Very warm to hot conditions will extend into the southeast of the state on Wednesday in the northerly wind flow ahead of the trough, whilst cooler conditions will spread to the southern interior behind the trough. A new trough system is expected to enter the state late in the week. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated light showers near the west Peninsula coast tonight. Patchy high cloud moving over the southeast though remaining fine apart from the chance of isolated showers about the southern border ranges. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds though the southeastern interior ahead of a cooler, gusty southerly wind change extending through the southwest. Moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Wednesday 8 OctoberIsolated showers over the southeast of the state during the afternoon and evening. Possible light morning showers about the far northeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds about the southeast of the state with sea breezes with a moderate to fresh south to southeasterly change in the afternoon. Moderate to fresh southeast to southwest winds over the southern and western interior. Moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Very High about the southeast interior, northern Central Highlands and some inland parts of the northeast tropics.Thursday 9 OctoberThe surface trough should continue moving north into Capricornia waters during the day. The onshore wind flow near and to its south should generate some shower activity from the coast west to the ranges, with possible storms over the Capricornia district nearer to the surface trough. A ridge should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions over remaining parts of the state.Friday 10 OctoberA new upper trough is likely to approach the southwest of the state late, increasing instability over areas to its east. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are therefore likely about parts of the central and southern interior. A ridge should persist along the east coast with isolated showers expected in the onshore flow, mainly about the central and northern east coast. The west and much of the north of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny.Saturday 11 OctoberThe new upper trough is likely to move further east into the interior of the state, further increasing instability to its east. A surface trough lying through the interior of the state is expected to act as the focus for showers and possible isolated thunderstorms, with the Central West and Maranoa and Warrego districts most likely to see some activity, possibly extending into the southeast interior. The onshore flow about the east coast may lead to some isolated showers. The far southwest and far north of the state is likely to remain fine and mostly sunny.Sunday until TuesdayThere remains some uncertainty about the development and movement of trough system through the outlook period but it is likely to continue to produce unstable conditions and some shower and storm activity over eastern parts. Western areas are likely to remain fine and mostly sunny. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Wednesday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland Queensland's improving weather services --> Rainfall Forecast Terminology Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 14:45 on Tuesday 7 October 2014 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2014, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
