Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 6/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weakening ridge extends along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough will move eastwards over the interior of the state during today. The trough is expected to contract off the southern Queensland coast on Wednesday and then shift north into Capricornia waters on Thursday. Very warm to hot conditions will extend through southern parts of the state during today and Wednesday in the northerly wind flow ahead of the trough. A new trough is expected to enter the state late in the week.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated light showers near the central coast and islands during the morning and near the west Peninsula coast at night. Patchy high cloud moving east over the far southern interior though remaining fine apart from the chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms about the southern border ranges. Areas of raised dust in the southwest. A hot day though the southern and southeastern interior with moderate to fresh and gusty north to northwesterly winds ahead of a cooler, gusty southerly wind change extending through the far southwest. Moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Very High in the southern and southeast interior, northern Central Highlands and Coalfields and inland parts of the northeast tropics.Wednesday 8 OctoberThe surface trough will contract off the southern Queensland coast during the day, with hot northerly winds ahead of the trough tending cooler southerly in its wake. There is some chance of isolated shower activity over the southeast of the state during the late afternoon or evening following the wind change. A new high will move into southeastern Australia, extending a ridge and fine and sunny conditions into remaining parts of the state.Thursday 9 OctoberThe surface trough should continue moving north into Capricornia waters during the day. The onshore wind flow near and to its south should generate some shower activity from the coast west to the ranges, with possible storms over the Capricornia district nearer to the surface trough. A ridge should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions over remaining parts of the state.Friday 10 OctoberA new upper trough is likely to approach the southwest of the state late on Friday, increasing instability over areas to its east. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are therefore likely about parts of the central and southern interior. A ridge should persist along the east coast with isolated showers expected in the onshore flow, mainly about the central and northern east coast. The west and much of the north of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny.Saturday until MondayThere remains some uncertainty about the development and movement of the next trough system but it is likely to produce unstable conditions and some shower and storm activity over parts of the state through the outlook period, particularly through the interior and southeast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
