Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 6/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge currently extends along the east Queensland coast and is expected to weaken during Tuesday. A surface trough will move eastwards over the interior of the state during Tuesday and should contract off the southern Queensland coast on Wednesday. The trough is then expected to move northwards through the Wide Bay and Burnett and Capricornia districts on Thursday. Very warm to hot conditions will extend through southern parts of the state over the next few days in the northerly wind flow ahead of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of MondayFine and clear over most of the state with only patchy cloud about parts of the east coast. Moderate to fresh and gusty northerly winds in the southwest. Moderate southeast to northeasterly winds over central and northern districts. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Tuesday 7 OctoberIsolated light showers are possible about the east tropical coast and islands. Isolated afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms about the southern border ranges. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere with only patchy high cloud moving eastwards across the southern interior. Areas of raised dust may affect parts of the southwest and southern interior. Hot northerly winds will extend through the southern and southeast interior with cooler, moderate to fresh southerly winds spreading to the southwest of the state. Moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Very High in the southern and southeast interior, northern Central Highlands and Coalfields and inland parts of the northeast tropics.Wednesday 8 OctoberThe surface trough will most likely contract off the southern Queensland coast during the day, with hot northerly winds ahead of the trough tending cooler southerly in its wake. There is some chance of isolated shower activity over the southeast of the state during the late afternoon or evening following the wind change. A new high will move into southeastern Australia, extending a ridge and fine and sunny conditions into remaining parts of the state.Thursday 9 OctoberThe surface trough should continue moving north into Capricornia waters during the day. The onshore wind flow near and to its south should generate some shower activity from the coast west to the ranges, with possible storms over the Capricornia district nearer to the surface trough. A ridge should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions over remaining parts of the state.Friday 10 OctoberA new upper trough is likely to approach the southwest of the state late on Friday with instability increasing over the southern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are therefore likely about parts of the central and southern interior. A ridge should persist along the east coast with isolated showers expected in the onshore flow, mainly about the central and northern east coast. The west and much of the north of the state should remain fine and mostly sunny.Saturday until MondayThere remains some uncertainty about the development and movement of the next upper trough system but it is likely to maintain instability over central and eastern parts through the outlook period. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are therefore possible over many central and eastern parts of the state through the outlook period but is likely that the west of the state should be fine and mostly sunny. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
