A ridge extends along the east Queensland coast and should weaken during Tuesday. A trough will move east over the interior of the state during Tuesday and should contract off the southern Queensland coast on Wednesday. Very warm to hot conditions will extend through southern parts of the state early to mid week in the northerly wind flow ahead of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers and thunderstorms through the central and southern interior east of about Longreach to St George, clearing during the evening. Isolated showers about the east tropical coast. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds over the tropics and central districts, fresh at times near the north tropical coast. Light to moderate northwest to northeast winds elsewhere.Monday 6 OctoberFine and sunny over most of the state with just the chance of isolated showers about east coast islands. A hot day in the southwest with moderate to fresh and gusty northerly winds. Moderate southeast to northeasterly winds over central and northern districts. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - Very High over the southwest of the state, and parts of the central and tropical interior.Tuesday 7 OctoberThe surface trough will move east over southern districts, with hot northerly winds extending through inland areas to its east. A weak upper trough will move across the far south during the day, possibly producing some shower or thunderstorm activity near the southern border ranges. An onshore wind flow may produce some isolated showers about the exposed east tropical coast and islands. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue elsewhere.Wednesday 8 OctoberThe surface trough will most likely contract off the southern Queensland coast during the day, with hot northerly winds ahead of the trough tending cooler southerly in its wake. There is some chance of isolated shower activity over the southeast of the state during the late afternoon or evening following the wind change. A new high will move into southeastern Australia, extending a ridge and fine and sunny conditions into remaining parts of the state.Thursday 9 OctoberThe trough should continue moving north into Capricornia waters. The onshore wind flow near and to its south should generate some shower activity from the coast west to the ranges, with possible storms over the Capricornia district nearer to the surface trough. A ridge should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions over remaining parts of the state.Friday until SundayA new upper level trough will most likely produce some showers and storms over central and southeast parts of the state during the outlook period, though some uncertainty exists with the movement and development of this system. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny under the influence of a ridge of high pressure. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
