U.S. Rye Crop Down 6%

WASHINGTON - Sep 30/14 - SNS -- Rye production for 2014 is estimated at 7.19 million bushels, down 6% from the revised 2013 total, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates.

Harvested area totaled 258,000 acres, down 20,000 acres from 2013. The United States yield, at 27.9 bushels per acre, is up 0.5 bushel from the previous year. Drier weather conditions in the Southern Great Plains and the Southeast led to decreases in harvested acres from a year earlier.
