MELBOURNE - Sep 29/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front over the Southern Ocean will move rapidly across Victoria on Tuesday, mainly affecting southern districts. The next high pressure system will move over Bight waters on Wednesday but will remain to the west of Victoria during Thursday as another cold front crosses Tasmania. The high will then drift across Victoria on Friday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayShowers developing near and south of the Divide but remaining dry over the northwest. The chance of thunderstorms or hail over southern districts later in the afternoon and evening. Fresh northwesterly winds ahead of a colder, gusty west to southwesterly change in the west and central districts during the afternoon and extending to the east at night. Winds becoming strong to locally gale force on the coast following the change. Snowfalls developing on the ranges down to 900 metres tonight.Wednesday 1 OctoberIsolated showers in southern and mountain areas tending scattered about the coast. Local hail over Gippsland and snowfalls as low as 800 metres on the eastern ranges during the morning. Generally fine and cool in the north but a colder day in the south with moderate to locally fresh southwesterly winds.Thursday 2 OctoberIsolated light showers possible in the south, mainly near the coast but dry across the north. A cool day with moderate southwest to southerly winds.Friday 3 OctoberChance of morning drizzle in the south, otherwise dry. Cool and partly cloudy in the south, but mild and mostly sunny over the north.
