MELBOURNE - Sep 27/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the western Tasman Sea extends a ridge through much of Queensland. The high will shift slowly eastwards over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated light showers along the east coast south of about St Lawrence and about the North Tropical Coast. A cloudy morning through inland parts of the Wide Bay Burnett district with some possible drizzle areas. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere across the state. Light to moderate southeast winds about the east coast, fresh at times about the far northeast coast. Light to moderate northeast to northwest winds over much of the interior.Fire Danger - Very High about inland parts of the North Tropical Coast and Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts.Monday 29 SeptemberThe high will move slowly southeastwards across the Tasman Sea with a ridge extending through eastern Queensland. Onshore winds are expected to produce isolated showers over central and northern coastal areas. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Above average maximum temperatures are expected in the warm northerly wind flow through western Queensland and the southern interior.Tuesday 30 SeptemberThe high should move slowly eastwards towards New Zealand maintaining a weak ridge over the tropical east coast. The next upper trough and associated surface trough should move across the southern interior, but dry surface conditions should keep inland parts generally fine though a little cloudy except for the southeast Granite Belt where there is a possibility of some late isolated shower activity. Mostly fine with just some isolated showers along parts of the northeast coast in an onshore wind flow. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Fresh and gusty northerly winds through the west and over the southern interior are likely to produce maximum and minimum temperatures well above the September average.Wednesday 1 OctoberThe upper trough and associated surface trough should move eastwards into central and southeastern parts of the state with showers likely about the southeast of the state and parts of the southern interior, and a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms developing in the far southeast late. A weak ridge should persist about the north tropical east coast with the onshore flow leading to some isolated showers about the northern tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Temperatures should remain above the September average through the much of the west and south of the state.Thursday until SaturdayThere is some uncertainty about the development of upper features in the atmosphere during the outlook period but instability is likely to persist over some eastern parts of the state with the chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms. The ridge along the east coast is expected to persist through the outlook period as a new high moves eastwards across southeast Australia. Isolated showers should continue along parts of the east coast in an onshore wind flow.
