MELBOURNE - Sep 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A slow moving high pressure system lies over the Tasman Sea. A low pressure trough over western Victoria will move cross central areas tonight and through eastern districts early Thursday. Meanwhile a high pressure system will develop over the Bight and extend a ridge across southern Victoria on Thursday with a weak cold front moving across Tasmania early Friday. The high will then move slowly eastwards across southern New South Wales on Friday and into the Tasman Sea on Saturday. The next cold front will enter the southwest of the State later Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of rain and the chance of a thunderstorm contracting to eastern districts at night. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the west. Moderate to locally fresh northeast to northerly winds tending west to southwesterly over western and coastal areas. Afternoon seabreezes along the Gippsland coast.Thursday 25 SeptemberAreas of rain and the chance of a thunderstorm clearing from the east during the morning. Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and areas of drizzle in the south, mostly clearing in the afternoon. Chance of early morning drizzle over inland areas. Cooler with moderate south to southwesterly winds extending throughout.Friday 26 SeptemberScattered showers extending from the west across southern districts. Partly cloudy but fine over the northern inland. A cool to mild day with light to moderate southwesterly winds tending northwest during the day.Saturday 27 SeptemberFine apart from the chance of an afternoon showers about the east ranges afternoon. A mild to warm and mainly sunny day with light to moderate northeast to northwest winds.Sunday 28 SeptemberIsolated showers developing in the southwest and extending to central areas in the evening. Fine and mainly sunny in the east.
