MELBOURNE - Sep 23/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high is centred over the Tasman Sea. A low pressure system and associated trough in the west of the State will move across the central and eastern parts during Wednesday. A new high pressure system will develop over the north on Thursday and Friday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayShowers and possible thunderstorms over the State south of about Oodnadatta. Showers developing into areas of rain over central and eastern parts during the evening. Moderate to fresh northeast to northwesterly winds tending milder southwesterly in the west.Wednesday 24 SeptemberShowers and areas of rain over the agricultural areas and the pastoral districts, clearing from the west during the morning. Possible thunderstorms over central and eastern districts contracting east and clearing during the day. Showers and rain contracting towards the south and the east and clearing during the evening. Possible showers developing about western coasts and the southern agricultural area late evening. Mild to warm grading to hot in the far northeast. Moderate to fresh northeast to northwesterly winds in the east, ahead of a moderate to fresh southeast to southwesterly change developing from the west and extending throughout by late evening.Thursday 25 SeptemberMorning fog patches in the far west. Showers about southern coasts and ranges, possibly also extending to coastal parts of Eyre Peninsula, the Flinders, Mid North and western Murraylands, all easing during the day. Cool to mild with light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.Friday 26 SeptemberShowers about the Lower South East, possibly extending over the Upper South East, Kangaroo Island and the Fleurieu Peninsula. Morning fog patches over Eyre Peninsula and the agricultural districts. Mild in the south, warm inland with moderate westerly winds in the south tending light inland, then becoming northerly during the day in the west.Saturday 27 September The chance of early morning showers about the Lower South East, otherwise fine. Warm, grading to hot in the north and west with freshening northerly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Tuesday afternoon until midnight Saturday are expected to be about 5 to 10 mm about the south of the Northeast Pastoral, southwest of the Northwest Pastoral, western parts of the West Coast, the Flinders and the Lower South East districts and over the southern Flinders and Mt Lofty Ranges. Local falls of 10 to 20 mm are forecast over these areas apart from the Lower South East district and the Mount Lofty Ranges. Higher falls of 20 to 40 mm are possible with thunderstorms over the Flinders and Northeast Pastoral districts. Falls of 2 to 5 mm are likely over the remainder of the agricultural area apart from southern and western Eyre Peninsula. Less than 2 mm is expected over the northern Pastoral districts. Sunday until TuesdaySlight chance of showers about southern and western coasts from Sunday evening, extending over the southern agricultural area during Tuesday. Warm to hot at first then cooling during the period. Moderate to fresh northerly winds ahead of a southerly change moving over the west on Sunday and remaining parts on Monday.
