MELBOURNE - Sep 20/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over southeast Australia will move slowly eastwards over the next few days whilst strengthening. The high will lead to a firm ridge of high pressure developing along the east coast of Queensland over the weekend and early next week. An upper trough will enter the southwest of the state late today and move eastwards over the Queensland interior on Sunday and Monday before contracting off the east coast during Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers about the coast and adjacent inland south of about Rockhampton, tending scattered about coastal parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett district and the Sunshine Coast. Increasing high cloud cover over the southwest of the state with possible isolated showers or thunderstorms but with little or no rainfall expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. Mostly light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds, fresh at times across the far north of the Peninsula. Northeast sea breezes developing along parts of the east coast during the afternoon.Fire Danger - Very High in the western Darling Downs and Granite Belt district and about the Central Highlands and Coalfields district.Sunday 21 SeptemberThe upper trough is likely to strengthen as it shifts into western Queensland, further destabilising the airmass over the central interior. A surface trough should deepen in response to the upper trough and shift west into the state's interior whilst the high is expected to remain slow moving over southeastern Australia. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected over the southern and central interior to the east of the surface trough, tending to rain at times late in the day. Showers are likely through remaining central districts, with the slight chance of isolated thunderstorms, though mainly over inland parts. Isolated showers are also possible through the southern tropics south of about Cairns. Isolated to scattered showers about southeast districts, mainly east of the Great Dividing Range. Fine and partly cloudy conditions should occur elsewhere.Monday 22 SeptemberThe upper trough is expected to move slowly eastwards across central Queensland, whilst the high over southeastern Australia should move slowly eastwards into the Tasman Sea. Showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms should occur over the central interior, extending south into the northern Maranoa and Darling Downs and also extending eastwards to the central coast. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms about the Central West and into the southern interior. Showers are also likely through the Wide Bay and Burnett about the tropical coast. Isolated showers about the southeast, mainly east of the Dividing Range. Fine and mostly sunny in the far west.Tuesday 23 SeptemberThe upper trough should weaken and contract off the east coast during the day. Patchy rain areas about the Central Highlands and Central Coast should ease to showers during the day. Isolated showers are likely about much of the east coast in the onshore flow. Isolated showers are possible about the central, southern and southeast interior but are unlikely to produce much precipitation. Fine and mostly sunny in the west of the state and about much of the north.Wednesday until FridayThe next upper trough should shift across central Australia and may enter the far southwest of the state into Thursday, before clearing off the east coast late Thursday. The high in the Tasman Sea should also move slowly eastwards with the ridge along the east coast slowly weakening. Isolated showers are likely to continue along the east coast in the onshore flow throughout the forecast period. A band of showers and possible thunderstorms may move into the far southwest late Wednesday and move across the far southern interior during Thursday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland Queensland's improving weather services --> Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 06:15 on Saturday 20 September 2014 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2014, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
