MELBOURNE - Sep 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A relatively weak low pressure system over western Victoria extends a trough northwards over eastern NSW. This system will move steadily east today with the trough crossing NSW coastal waters later this afternoon and evening and the low moving through eastern Bass Strait and deepening somewhat during this time. The low is expected to move slowly to the southeast and intensify further during Wednesday while a cold front moves northeast from the Southern Ocean across Tasmania then southeast NSW. Fresh to strong southwest winds are expected for southern and central waters on this day. Another cold front or trough is likely to pass near southeast NSW on Thursday and Friday, and combined with a slow moving high south of Adelaide, is likely to bring fresh to strong southwest to southerly winds to much of the coast, particularly southern and central areas. A southerly swell is also expected to increase late in the week. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers in the east, becoming more widespread during the afternoon. Snow showers above 1600 metres in the south. Isolated thunderstorms in the east, more likely and more widespread about the far southeast, and far north coast and adjacent ranges during the afternoon. Storms clearing in the evening. Fine in the west. Northeast to northwesterly winds in the east, with fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds extending throughout by evening.Fire Danger - Very high fire danger for the northeast.Wednesday 17 SeptemberIsolated showers about the southeast, mostly about the western and southern slopes of the southern ranges, and falling as snow on the Alps. Fine and partly cloudy in the remainder. West to southwesterly winds, fresh to strong in the southeast.Thursday 18 SeptemberIsolated showers in the far southeast, falling as snow on the Alps. Fine elsewhere. Winds southwest to southeasterly, fresh and gusty about the southeast.Friday 19 SeptemberIsolated showers about the southern coast and far southern ranges. Fine elsewhere.
