LITTLE ROCK - Sep 15/14 - SNS -- The latest weekly rice market summary for the United States was released by the USDA today.
National Weekly Rice Summary (Arkansas-Louisiana-Texas-California) Domestic Trend In the south, long grain prices in Texas and Louisiana trending 2.00-4.00 lower. However, Arkansas long grain rice prices remain steady. Medium grain rice prices steady. Parboiled steady to 2.00 lower. Second heads steady to 5.00 lower. Brewers steady to 3.00 lower. Rice by-products: rice bran prices unevenly steady; rice millfeed steady on limited current sales; hulls mostly steady. Louisiana Rough Rice price not established this week due to lower bid price so most opt to stay out of the market. In California, medium and short grain prices remain steady; second heads and brewers steady. Rice by-products: rice bran prices steady to 10.00 higher; hulls steady. Currently, limited trade with most producers waiting to see what new crop brings. Harvest just getting under way. Drought conditions still present throughout California which lower estimated harvest acreages. A large US rice harvest continues to put downward pressure on CME Rough Rice futures. However, some seem to think the futures market has found a bottom. CME Rough Rice settlements for Friday Sep 12th, Nov 14 closed .265 higher at 12.785 and Jan 15 closed .255 higher at 12.975. US dollar index on Friday settled at 84.17.
