Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 10/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough extends from the tropical interior, south into the central interior and off the far southern coast. The trough should contract off the Fraser coast early this morning and should then remain slow moving before shifting further west into the state's interior on Friday and Saturday. A weak high pressure system over South Australia extends a ridge into western and southern parts of Queensland. The high should strengthen today and shift south into the Great Australian Bight, then move slowly eastwards on Friday and into the Tasman Sea on Saturday, extending a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. An upper trough will move into western Queensland on Friday, and gradually move eastwards across the state and should shift off the central and southern coast late Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayEarly morning fog patches about eastern districts south of Townsville otherwise fine and mostly sunny across the state. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds over the interior, fresh and gusty at times during the morning. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds about the east coast.Fire Danger -  Very High in inland parts of the North Tropical Coast and Hebert and Lower Burdekin districts and parts of the Central Highlands, Capricornia and Wide Bay districts.Friday 12 SeptemberThe high will move across southeastern Australia, extending a ridge along the southern and central Queensland coast. An upper trough will push into the west of the state and the surface trough should deepen across the central interior. Moist onshore wind flow should therefore extend into the central interior to the east of the surface trough. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and possible thunderstorms are expected about parts of the Central West district and northern parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields district in the increasingly unstable airmass. Isolated showers are possible about the southern border ranges during the afternoon and then through the Whitsunday Islands region during the evening as the ridge strengthens.Saturday 13 SeptemberThe upper trough will move east over Queensland during the day and contract off the central and southern coast late. The high should shift into the Tasman Sea and move slowly eastwards, strengthening the ridge through northern Queensland. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms should therefore decrease through the central interior during the day. Isolated showers are likely through parts of the tropical interior into the afternoon, and isolated to scattered showers and possible thunderstorms are expected through the southeast, due the passage of the upper trough. Isolated showers should develop about the Cassowary coast during the evening due to the strengthening ridge. Fine and mostly sunny in the west of the state.Sunday 14 SeptemberThe high should move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea while weakening, relaxing the ridge along the east coast. Isolated showers are expected about the Cassowary coast in the moist onshore wind flow. Fine and sunny conditions should occur across the remainder of the state, with only the possibility of some early morning showers along the central and Fraser coasts.Monday until WednesdayA weak ridge is expected to persist through northern Queensland. A series of upper level troughs and associated surface troughs are likely to shift eastwards across southern and central parts of the state during the outlook period. Much of western Queensland and the northern interior should therefore remain fine and sunny. Mostly fine conditions over the central and east tropical coasts, with only isolated showers expected. Southeast districts and the southern central interior may experience some shower and thunderstorm activity due to the passage of the trough systems.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
