Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 8/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system is located near New Zealand, while a strong cold front is moving through western Victoria. The front will move across the State today, reaching central areas around midday and entering eastern districts later in the afternoon or evening. A high pressure ridge will extend across the Bight to northwest Victoria on Wednesday, then another cold front is expected to cross southern Victoria Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. The high pressure system will drift eastwards over Victoria on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayRain areas and isolated thunderstorms contracting to the east during the afternoon and becoming more extensive with moderate to heavy falls possible in the northeast. Isolated showers to follow with possible thunderstorms over the southwest. Fresh to strong northerly winds reaching gale force about Central and Alpine areas during the morning then easing and tending cooler northwest to westerly from the west during the afternoon and easing.Wednesday 10 SeptemberRain areas and isolated thunderstorms in the far east clearing early morning but isolated showers persisting about the northeast ranges and falling as snow above 1500 metres. Isolated showers clearing over the southwest during the afternoon, before redeveloping and becoming more extensive over the far southwest at night. Dry over the remainder. Mild with moderate westerly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Thursday 11 SeptemberScattered showers developing over southern and mountain districts with isolated showers extending over the northern plains during the afternoon, though remaining dry over the northwest. Snow above 1500m. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong at times near the coast.Friday 12 SeptemberMorning fog and frost areas inland. Mainly dry and sunny apart from a shower or two clearing from the coast by mid afternoon.
