LITTLE ROCK - Sep 8/14 - SNS -- The latest weekly rice market summary for the United States was released by the USDA today.
National Weekly Rice Summary (Arkansas-Louisiana-Texas-California) Domestic Trend In the south, long and medium grain prices mostly steady; parboiled steady; second heads steady; brewers steady to weak. Rice by-products: rice bran prices mostly steady; rice millfeed 5.00 to 10.00 lower; hulls steady mostly steady. Louisiana new crop Rough Rice prices .08 cents CWT lower, however very limited current trades as most farmers holding for higher prices. Louisiana and Texas preparing to complete first cut. Arkansas just getting into harvest with reported yields below average. In California, old crop medium and short grain prices steady; second heads and brewers steady to weak. Rice by-products: rice bran prices steady to 5.00 higher; hulls steady. Currently, very limited trade with most producers waiting to see what new crop brings. Majority of farmers have shut water off and waiting for fields to dry. Harvest looks to start in about 2 to 4 weeks. Drought conditions still present throughout California. A large US rice harvest continues to put downward pressure on CME Rough Rice futures. CME Rough Rice settlements for Friday Sep 5th, Sep 14 contract closed down .025 at 12.375, Nov 14 closed .03 lower at 12.49 and Jan 15 closed down .02 at 12.71. US dollar index on Friday Sep 5th settled at 83.85.
