MELBOURNE - Sep 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will move steadily eastwards during Monday as a weakening cold front slips to the south of Tasmania. A stronger cold front will move rapidly across the Bight on Monday to reach the western border of Victoria around midnight then move across the State on Tuesday while an associated deep low pressure system passes south of Tasmania. Another cold front is expected to cross southern Victoria on Wednesday morning and a third front will follow early on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of MondayMorning fog patches in the east. A mild to warm day with northerly winds strengthening over southern and elevated areas and reaching gale force tonight. Cloud increasing from the west with patchy rain developing in the west by the afternoon and reaching central areas at night.Tuesday 9 SeptemberRain areas and isolated thunderstorms contracting to the east during the afternoon and becoming more extensive with moderate to heavy falls possible in the northeast. Isolated showers to follow with possible thunderstorms over the southwest. Fresh to strong northerly winds reaching gale force about Central and Alpine areas during the morning then easing and tending cooler westerly from the west during the afternoon and easing.Wednesday 10 SeptemberRain areas in the far east clearing during the early morning. Generally dry elsewhere apart from isolated showers about the northeast ranges and southwest during the afternoon, becoming more extensive over the far southwest at night. Mild with moderate westerly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Thursday 11 SeptemberScattered showers developing over southern and mountain districts with isolated showers extending over the northern plains during the afternoon, though remaining dry over the northwest. Snow above 1400m.
