MELBOURNE - Sep 6/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strengthening high pressure system off the southern New South Wales coast is drifting slowly east. This will maintain onshore winds and showers along much of the coast today, while a trough over the state's northwest may lead to unsettled conditions near the Queensland border. On Monday the high is forecast to be over the central Tasman Sea, but is expected to maintain a ridge into New South Wales until the next cold front moves across the state during Tuesday and Wednesday. Another high is forecast to quickly move in behind the cold front by week's end. Forecast for the rest of SundayMorning fogs and local frost on the southern ranges. Showers about the central and northern coasts and adjacent ranges, more frequent about central parts during the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern inland, mainly near the Queensland border. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. East to northeasterly winds.Monday 8 SeptemberIsolated showers along the central and northern coasts and adjacent ranges, contracting northwards during the day. The chance of showers over the northern inland. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. East to northeasterly winds, freshening in the south and west.Tuesday 9 SeptemberShower or rain areas over the southwest, extending east and increasing about the southern slopes of the ranges by evening, falling as snow on the alpine peaks. The chance of an early shower or two on the northern coast, otherwise remaining fine in the northeast. North to northeasterly winds, increasing ahead of a gusty westerly change in the west.Wednesday 10 SeptemberRain areas in the east, tending to showers and contracting to the southeast inland. A few snow showers on the Alps. Generally dry in the west.
