MELBOURNE - Sep 4/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation An intense low pressure system over the central Tasman Sea is moving slowly eastwards towards the north island of New Zealand. A low pressure trough is moving northeastwards across eastern South Australia and will weaken over northern NSW on Friday. Meanwhile, a high pressure ridge is extending across the Bight to support the high pressure system over central Victoria. The new high pressure system will reach Bass Strait on Friday and will then move eastwards across southern Victoria on Saturday and over the Tasman Sea on Sunday. A cold front will move rapidly across the Bight on Monday, weakening as it approaches western Victoria late in the day. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers in the west, generally clearing later. Scattered showers over Gippsland, mainly in the far east. Light south to southeasterly winds.Friday 5 SeptemberScattered showers over East Gippsland, otherwise fine and mostly sunny. Morning fog and frost patches. Generally cool with light to moderate southeasterly wind.Saturday 6 SeptemberMorning frost and fog patches then a fine, cool to mild and mostly sunny day. Light winds and weak afternoon coastal seabreezes.Sunday 7 SeptemberMorning frost and fog patches then a fine, mild and mostly sunny day.
