MELBOURNE - Sep 3/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high over southeastern Australia extends a strong ridge into western Queensland. The high will remain near stationary during the forecast period but will gradually weaken during Thursday and Friday as the high weakens. Cool south to southwesterly winds will extend across the state during today. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine and clear. Moderate to fresh south to southwest winds.Thursday 4 SeptemberFine, dry and mostly sunny across the state. Widespread early frost through the southern, central and southeast interior. A large south to southeasterly swell in exposed waters off the southeast coast.Friday 5 SeptemberThe high over Victoria should keep much of Queensland fine and sunny, although an upper trough may produce isolated showers about the Southern Border Ranges and Granite Belt. Early frost over the southern, central and southeast inland. Swells easing over far southern waters as the low in the Tasman Sea moves to the east.Saturday 6 SeptemberThe high should remain over Victoria, maintaining fine and mostly sunny conditions across Queensland except for the chance of some isolated showers about the Southern Border Ranges and Granite Belt. Early frosts are possible about the Granite Belt.Sunday 7 SeptemberThe high should move slowly eastwards through the Tasman Sea, while an upper trough strengthens over Queensland's interior, generating showers and possibly thunderstorms over the central and eastern interior districts. Isolated showers about the state's far east in an onshore flow.Monday until WednesdayThe upper trough should remain over Queensland's interior early in the new week, maintaining showers and possible thunderstorms over the southern and central interior on Monday, before contracting off the east coast during Tuesday.
