MELBOURNE - Sep 2/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough and associated cold front over northeast New South Wales will continue eastwards tonight as a low pressure centre deepens over the Tasman Sea, assisted by the presence of cold air in the upper atmosphere. This development is expected bring strengthening winds to coastal areas, possibly reaching gale-force in places. Later on Wednesday the low should move away from the coast as a high pressure ridge becomes dominant over southeast Australia. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayShowers and possible thunderstorms in central and eastern districts, contracting to the coast overnight. Showers falling as snow on the southern ranges above about 1000 metres, and possibly about the higher peaks of the central and northern ranges. Fine in the west. South to southwesterly winds becoming strong and gusty near the coast tonight, possibly reaching gale-force in places. Dangerous surf conditions developing along southern and central parts of the coast.Wednesday 3 SeptemberIsolated showers about the coast south from Port Macquarie, more likely in the vicinity of Port Stephens. Possible showers on the southern ranges, falling as snow above 1000 metres. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. South to southwesterly winds, fresh to strong in the east and possibly reaching gale-force along parts of the coast. Winds tending light and variable over the western inland. Dangerous surf conditions along the entire coast.Thursday 4 SeptemberIsolated showers about the coast south from Port Macquarie. Isolated showers developing over the southwest later in the day. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Fresh to strong south to southwest winds along the coast, tending light and variable further inland.Friday 5 SeptemberThe chance of shower in most areas except the northwest. Showers increasing along southern and central coastal districts. Partly cloudy. South to southeasterly winds.Saturday 6 SeptemberScattered showers along central and northern parts of the coast, tending more isolated in the southeast and the northern inland. Fine across the southern and central inland.
