MELBOURNE - Aug 30/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure over eastern Victoria will weaken today as a cold front over the Bight moves towards Victoria. The front will approach western Victoria tonight before moving across the State on Monday. The next high pressure system will cross the Bight on Tuesday and will be centred near Adelaide Tuesday night. The high will weaken on Wednesday as an associated ridge crosses Victoria. Forecast for the rest of SundayMorning fog and frost patches in the east otherwise a fine, mild to warm day with light to moderate northerly winds freshening over the west in the afternoon. Mainly sunny in the east, but high cloud increasing over the west during the afternoon and scattered showers to follow over the far southwest at night.Monday 1 SeptemberA band of rain extending from the west reaching the east by late afternoon. Scattered showers following the rain then easing over central and western districts during the late afternoon and evening. Rain developing over Alpine areas then tending to snow down to 1300 metres in the afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds reaching gale force over the eastern ranges, shifting cooler west to southwesterly from the west.Tuesday 2 SeptemberScattered showers in southern and mountain areas tending more extensive over East Gippsland. Showers falling as snow above 900 metres. Isolated showers over the northern plains apart from the Mallee. A cooler day with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Wednesday 3 SeptemberScattered showers over Gippsland with isolated showers possible elsewhere in the south, mainly near the coast. Dry and mostly sunny in the north.
