Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 30/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weakening ridge extends through southern Queensland and along the east Queensland coast. A vigorous surface trough will enter far southwestern Queensland on Monday and move rapidly east, most likely contracting off the southern coast Tuesday evening. Warm northwesterly winds will spread through areas to the east of the trough during Monday and Tuesday, followed by a cool, gusty southwesterly wind change developing in its wake.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayFine and clear conditions over much of Queensland with only isolated light showers over the northern Peninsula and also about the Granite Belt and southeast inland. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds over southeast and central districts. Moderate east to southeast winds elsewhere, fresh and gusty at times along the east tropical coast.Sunday 31 AugustFine and sunny over much of the state with only isolated light showers through the northeastern Peninsula and also possibly over the southeast inland during the late afternoon and evening. Early frost patches over the Maranoa. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds near the east tropical coast. Light winds over southern and central districts with afternoon sea breezes near the coast. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Monday 1 SeptemberA weak ridge will persist along the east Queensland coast. A vigorous trough will enter southwestern Queensland late in the day, with warm northwesterly winds extending through western and southern districts to its east. Some cloud may accompany the trough in the far southwest though with no rainfall expected. Much of the state should in fact be fine and mostly sunny with just the chance of isolated showers over the far northern Peninsula. A few early frosts are possible about the Maranoa and Darling Downs.Tuesday 2 SeptemberThe trough is expected to move rapidly east, contracting off the southern Queensland coast during the evening. Warm northwesterly winds will extend through central and southern districts to the east of the trough ahead of a dry, cool and gusty south to southwesterly change developing in its wake. These conditions will lead to enhanced fire dangers across central and southern Queensland. Some cloud will accompany the trough through southern districts though with little or no rainfall expected. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere.Wednesday 3 SeptemberThe trough will shift further east into the Coral Sea with a dry, cool southerly wind flow and fine and sunny conditions extending through Queensland in its wake. Early frosts are likely through the southern and southeastern interior under the clear skies. Some light shower activity may occur through Torres Strait.Thursday until SaturdayA large high will enter the Great Australian Bight on Thursday and should then move slowly east towards the Tasman Sea during the outlook period, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. Early frosts will occur over the southern and southeast inland and may also affect the tropical tablelands. A new trough will possibly enter southeastern Queensland on Friday and Saturday generate some shower activity, particularly near the southeastern inland border. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
