MELBOURNE - Aug 29/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system is over the north Tasman Sea and a strong high pressure system is located near New Zealand. The high extends a ridge northwestwards across Victoria and Bass Strait. Little change is expected in this broad pattern before Saturday night but then the ridge will move to the east of Victoria during Sunday and a cold front will approach from Bight waters to reach western Victoria early Monday morning. The cold front will then to the east of the State during Monday afternoon. The next high will move into the Bight on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayPatchy fog redeveloping in the south this evening. Light winds and weak afternoon coastal seabreezes.Saturday 30 AugustFine apart from morning fog areas. A mild to warm and mostly sunny day with light winds tending northerly and weak afternoon coastal seabreezes.Sunday 31 AugustFine at first after early fog patches in the east. Scattered showers developing in the southwest at night. A mild to warm day with a moderate to fresh northerly winds.Monday 1 SeptemberScattered showers in southern and mountain areas with snow above 1200 metres. Scattered showers over the northern plains, becoming isolated in the afternoon. Moderate to fresh northerly winds shifting cooler southwesterly from the west.Tuesday 2 SeptemberScattered showers in southern and mountain areas with snow above 1200 metres. Isolated showers over the northern plains.
