Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 28/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A complex low pressure system lies off the eastern australian coast. A small low within this complex is currently moving northeastwards, away from the southern Queensland coast. Further south, another low within the complex is expected to move towards the New South Wales coast during Friday, and then move eastwards away from the coast on Saturday. A slow moving high in the southern Tasman sea will maintain a ridge through western and northern Queensland through the remainder of this week.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayFine and mostly clear over most of the state. Partly cloudy over the southeast corner with isolated showers about the offshore islands. Dangerous swell over southern Queensland waters. Mostly moderate south to southeasterly winds elsewhereFriday 29 AugustFine and sunny conditions over much of Queensland, with just the chance of some isolated showers over the offshore islands of southeastern Queensland and also about the central and tropical coasts. Powerful surf conditions are likely for southeast Queensland waters, and are expected to ease during the afternoon. Early frosts are again possible through the southern central interior.Saturday 30 AugustThe upper low and the surface low are expected to move eastwards away from the east Australian coast. The ridge will maintain fine and sunny conditions across most of Queensland, with only isolated light showers possible about tropical coast in a weak onshore flow. Early frosts are again possible about the southern and central interior of the state.Sunday 31 AugustA high will drift slowly eastwards over southeast Queensland, maintaining a ridge along the tropical east coast. This will lead to fine and sunny conditions across much of the state, with only isolated light showers possible about the tropical coast in a weak onshore flow.Monday 1 SeptemberThe high will drift further east off the southern Queensland coast, maintaining the ridge along the tropical east coast. Fine and sunny conditions across most of the state, with only isolated light showers possible about the tropical coast in the onshore trade wind flow. A surface trough will move eastwards across central Australia, reaching southwestern Queensland during the afternoon and evening. The airmass ahead of this feature should be too dry to support any precipitation. Early frosts will persist about the Granite Belt. Daytime temperatures will increase across the interior and south due to west to northwesterly winds ahead of the trough.Tuesday until ThursdayThe ridge along the tropical east coast will weaken, as the trough moves eastwards across the south of the state, moving offshore by Wednesday. The airmass ahead of this feature should remain too dry to support any precipitation, although isolated showers about the southern border cannot be totally ruled out. A high pressure system will develop over the Great Australian Bight, and extend a strong ridge northeastwards into central Queensland following the passage of the trough. Daytime temperatures will fall following the passage of the trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
