Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A complex low pressure system lies to the east of Fraser Island and is expected to shift south into the northern Tasman Sea during the forecast period. A slow moving high pressure system near the South Australian coast will maintain a ridge through western and northern Queensland through the remainder of this week. An upper level low is expected to move north into the far southern interior of Queensland during Tuesday before shifting east over southeast districts on Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers southeast of about Bundaberg to Goondiwindi. Fine and mostly clear for much of the tropics apart from the chance of isolated showers near the coastal North Tropical Coast and through the far northern Peninsula. Fine and clear in the west. A large and powerful easterly swell will affect southern Queensland waters, as will a fresh to strong southerly wind flow. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds elsewhere.Tuesday 26 AugustIsolated to scattered showers are expected southeast of about Hervey Bay to Cunnamulla, more frequent with possible isolated storms through the southern Downs and Granite Belt. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny apart from the chance of isolated showers near the northeast Peninsula coast and the eastern North Tropical Coast. Strong southerly winds and a powerful east to southeasterly swell over far southern Queensland waters. Mostly moderate southwest to southeast winds elsewhere, fresh at times during the morning in the northwest.Fire Danger -  Very High Fire Danger for the Gulf Country district.Wednesday 27 AugustSome uncertainty exists with the movement of an upper low but at this stage it is expected to shift east over southeast districts, generating showers and possible thunderstorms over areas southeast of about Gladstone to St George. Some rain areas are likely over the southern Darling Downs and Southeast Coast districts. A ridge will extend through the remainder of the state, resulting in fine and mostly sunny conditions. A low pressure system over the northern Tasman Sea should deepen in response to the upper low, extending strong winds and a powerful southeasterly swell into far southern Queensland waters. Early frost is possible on the Atherton Tablelands and through the Maranoa.Thursday 28 AugustThe upper low will most likely contract east away from the southern Queensland coast, while the surface low is likely to continue to move slowly eastwards over the northern Tasman Sea. Some instability is likely to persist about the far southeast of the state with isolated showers possible southeast of about Hervey Bay to Goondiwindi. A ridge will extend through much of western and northern Queensland with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected. Strong to gale strength winds and a powerful south to southeasterly swell over far southern Queensland waters. Early frosts are likely on the Atherton Tablelands.Friday 29 AugustThe upper low and surface low pressure system should both continue to slowly contract southeast away from the Queensland coast. Fine and sunny conditions across much of Queensland, with just the chance of some isolated showers over the far southeast of the state. Early frosts possibly occurring through the southeast inland and on the Atherton Tablelands.Saturday until MondayThe upper low and surface low pressure system should both continue to move southeast through the Tasman Sea. A ridge should then dominate the weather pattern over Queensland during the outlook period, with fine and sunny conditions across much of the state and early frosts possibly occurring through the southeast inland and on the Atherton Tablelands until Sunday.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
