Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface low pressure system lies to the east of Fraser Island and is expected to shift further south southeast into the northern Tasman Sea during the forecast period. An upper level low is expected to move north over New South Wales during Monday. Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the upper low but at this stage it will most likely move north into the far southern interior of Queensland during Tuesday before shifting east over southeast districts on Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayScattered, gusty showers near the southern coast, decreasing to isolated during the morning. Isolated showers elsewhere east of a line from about St Lawrence to Goondiwindi. Possible isolated showers over the far northern Peninsula, mostly during this morning. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds for most of the state, strong and gusty about the coast south of Sandy Cape.Fire Danger - Very High in the Gulf Country.Monday 25 AugustThe surface low pressure system offshore of the southern Queensland coast is expected to deepen and shift further southeast towards the northern Tasman Sea. It will combine with the slow moving high over the southern Tasman Sea to extend a large and powerful easterly swell into southern Queensland waters and fresh to strong southerly winds. A weak upper trough will most likely move east over southeastern Queensland, generating isolated to scattered showers, mostly during the afternoon. The tropics will remain fine apart from the chance of isolated showers near the east coast during the morning. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue in the west.Tuesday 26 AugustThe surface low over the northern Tasman Sea should move slowly south, decreasing the easterly swell and southerly winds through southern Queensland waters. An upper level low will most likely move north from New South Wales into the Maranoa during the day, greatly increasing instability over southern Queensland districts near and to its east. Isolated to scattered showers are therefore expected southeast of about Hervey Bay to Cunnamulla, more frequent with possible isolated storms through the Granite Belt. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny apart from the chance of isolated showers near the northeast Peninsula coast.Wednesday 27 AugustSome uncertainty exists with the movement of the upper low but at this stage it is expected to shift east over southeast districts, generating showers and possible thunderstorms over areas southeast of about Gladstone to St George. A ridge will extend through the remainder of the state, resulting in fine and mostly sunny conditions. The low pressure system over the northern Tasman Sea may deepen in response to the upper low, possibly extending strong southerly winds into far southern Queensland waters.Thursday until SaturdayThe upper low will most likely contract east away from the southern Queensland coast, while the surface low will shift further south southeast through the Tasman Sea. A ridge should dominate the weather pattern over Queensland during the outlook period, with fine and sunny conditions across much of the state and early frosts returning to the southeast inland, particularly the Granite Belt, from Friday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
