Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system remains almost stationary over the southern Tasman Sea, while a low pressure trough lies off the New South Wales and southern Queensland coasts. A weak cold front over southwestern New South Wales is expected to move across the state's south during Sunday and Monday before decaying, although an upper-level trough associated with this feature will remain in the region for several days. This upper-level feature may assist in the deepening of a low pressure centre over the northern Tasman Sea early in the new week, although the position of this is currently uncertain.
Forecast for the rest of SundayThe chance of showers in the south and east, more frequent along the central and northern coasts, increasing to rain areas in the northeast. Possible afternoon thunderstorms about the Southwest Slopes. Isolated snow showers above 1600 metres on the Alps. Southeast to northeasterly winds, tending southwesterly in the far southwest.Monday 25 AugustIsolated showers over the eastern inland, becoming more frequent along the coast during the day. Isolated snow showers above 1500 metres on the Alps. Possible afternoon thunderstorms about the Southwest Slopes and Alpine regions. East to northeasterly winds in the east, south to southwesterly winds in the west.Tuesday 26 AugustShowers in central and eastern districts, more widespread east of the Divide. Possible snow showers on the Alpine peaks. Fine in the west. East to southeasterly winds.Wednesday 27 AugustShowers in the east, more widespread about the central and northern coasts.
