Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 23/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system will remain over the south Tasman Sea for the next week. A cold front will enter western Victoria this evening then slowly progress eastwards across the State on Sunday while an associated low pressure system will move from west of Tasmania to lie over central Bass Strait by Sunday night. The low will then move northwards and weaken on Monday as it crosses central Victoria. Another high pressure centre to the west will then link to the southern Tasman Sea high via a strong ridge over Tasmania. This ridge is expected to move northwards to lie over Victoria by Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayScattered showers over the southwest extending to central areas tonight and isolated showers developing over the northwest. The chance of thunderstorms over the southwest. Mild, moderate to fresh northeast to northerly winds tending cooler northwest to southwesterly in the west.Sunday 24 AugustScattered showers extending across southern and mountain areas. Dry over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the east in the afternoon. Snow above 1400 metres. A cool to mild day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds tending west to southwesterly from the west and strengthening about the west and central coast.Monday 25 AugustScattered showers over central and eastern areas, tending more isolated to the west and fine over the far northwest. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the east in the afternoon and snowfalls above 1300 metres. A cool mostly cloudy day. Moderate southwesterly winds over the west, tending south to to southeasterly. Light winds over the east tending southerly.Tuesday 26 AugustIsolated showers over the east. Morning drizzle patches about parts of the coast and over the Central District. Fine elsewhere after morning fog patches. A cool to mild day with light to moderate easterly winds.Wednesday 27 AugustIsolated showers in the far east. Fine elsewhere after morning fog patches. A mild and mostly sunny day with light southeast to northeasterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Sunday.Product IDV10310
