MELBOURNE - Aug 23/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high over the southern Tasman Sea will move slowly to the east over the next few days and strengthen, extending a firm ridge through most of Queensland. A slow moving surface trough lies off the coast of southeast Queensland. An upper trough over the southeast interior of Queensland is expected to contract off the southeast coast during today, whilst another more significant upper trough is likely to develop over Queensland early next week. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated light showers about parts of the tropical east coast, mostly in the morning. Mostly cloudy about the far southeast of the state with rain areas in the morning, tending to scattered showers through the day. Isolated showers about the remainder of the southeast, and west to the Maranoa. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds for most of the state, strong and gusty at times about the southern coasts.Sunday 24 AugustThe high will remain slow moving in the eastern Tasman Sea. Isolated showers are expected east of line from about St Lawrence to Mungindi, more frequent about the exposed coast and adjacent inland as a surface trough remains close to the southeast Queensland coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are likely elsewhere.Monday 25 AugustThe high will continue to move very slowly eastwards across the eastern Tasman Sea. An upper trough is expected to develop over Queensland during the day and lie from the southeast of the state into the northwest by late in the day and this is likely to lead to a surface trough developing off the southeast Queensland coast. Relatively dry air should keep much of the east coast fine with only possible isolated showers about the exposed North Tropical Coast areas. Isolated showers will continue about the southeast of the state and are likely to be more frequent about the exposed parts of the southeast coast with trough likely to develop off the southeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are likely elsewhere.Tuesday 26 AugustThe high will continue to remain slow moving in the eastern Tasman Sea, whilst the upper trough over eastern Queensland is expected to intensify. There remains some uncertainty regarding the development of the trough off the southeast Queensland coast but there is the possibility of a low pressure system developing off the northern coast of New South Wales. Scattered showers are expected about the exposed southeast coast and the Border Ranges with more isolated showers elsewhere about the far southeast. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly sunny.Wednesday until FridayThe high will continue to remain slow moving close to New Zealand during the outlook period. There is considerable uncertainty regarding the development of a trough or low pressure system in the western Tasman Sea during the outlook period and its impact on weather about the far southeast of Queensland. It is likely that at least scattered showers and breezy conditions will continue over the far southeast of Queensland with the remainder of the state staying fine and mostly sunny. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland Queensland's improving weather services Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 04:30 on Saturday 23 August 2014 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2014, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
