Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 22/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system is centred over the southern Tasman Sea, with a trough offshore of the northern coast of New South Wales. These two systems will dominate the weather over the weekend as the high drifts slowly east allowing the trough to extend south over the central parts of the coast into the new week where it is expected to deepen. A weak trough is also expected to brush the far southern parts of the state late on Saturday and into Sunday associated with a cold front passing over Victoria this weekend.
Forecast for the rest of FridayShowers along the coast and adjacent ranges, more frequent on the coastal fringe. Falls may be locally heavy on the north coast. The chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms over the northern and central inland. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. East to southeasterly winds.Saturday 23 AugustShowers along the coast and adjacent ranges, more likely in the north. Falls may be locally heavy on the north coast. The chance of afternoon showers over the northern slopes. The chance of late showers over the far southwest. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Sunday 24 AugustThe chance of showers in the south and east, more frequent on the southern slopes, and the coast north of Newcastle. Showers falling as snow above 1700 metres on the southern ranges. Southeast to northeasterly winds, tending southwesterly in the far southwest.Monday 25 AugustShowers over the eastern inland, more frequent on and east of the ranges. Showers falling as snow above 1500 metres on the southern ranges. East to northeasterly winds in the east, south to southwesterly winds in the west.Tuesday 26 AugustShowers over the eastern inland, more frequent on and east of the ranges. Showers falling as snow above 1600 metres on the southern ranges. East to southeasterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Saturday.Product IDN10031
