MELBOURNE - Aug 22/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system centred just east of Tasmania will drift slowly eastwards today and then remain over the southern Tasman Sea for nearly a week. A cold front crossing waters south of the Bight will weaken to a trough as it moves over western Victoria late on Saturday. The trough will move slowly across the remainder of the State on Sunday as the next high pressure system moves from the Bight towards western Victoria by late in the day. This high will slide south of Victoria and join with the southern Tasman high pressure system on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayEarly frost and areas of fog inland, mainly in the east, then a mild and mostly sunny day. Isolated showers possible about the far east during the afternoon. Light to moderate northeast to northerly winds and afternoon seabreezes along the Gippsland coast.Saturday 23 AugustScattered showers developing over western districts during the afternoon and reaching central districts at night. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the southwest in the afternoon and evening. A mild day with cloud increasing from the west and moderate to locally fresh northeast to northerly winds.Sunday 24 AugustScattered showers extending across the State but tending more isolated over the southeast and northwest. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the northeast in the afternoon. Showers falling as snow above 1500 metres. A cool to mild day with light to moderate north to northwesterly winds tending west to southwesterly from the west.Monday 25 AugustIsolated showers over most districts tending more extensive over the east. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the east in the afternoon. Showers clearing from the west during the afternoon and contracting to the northeast at night.
