MELBOURNE - Aug 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system over northwest NSW will weaken today as a second, complex low develops off the NSW north coast this morning, then moves south to lie close to the central or southern coast tonight. Rain will clear from the north coast today but is expected to increase further along the southern half of the coast. Over the inland, some rain will persist in the south and shower activity is expected in the north, with a general easing later in the day. The low is likely to move north then northeast during Monday with rain mostly for southern and central parts of the coast and ranges. Strong to gale-force winds are expected to affect the NSW coast from later Sunday through Monday, more likely and stronger for southern and central parts of the coast though uncertainty remains as to the position and strength of the low and hence to the location of associated land gales. The low should move slowly east Tuesday/Wednesday as a ridge develops over western NSW. Forecast for the rest of SundayRain areas in the east and south, locally heavy about the southern half of the coast and adjacent ranges. Rain clearing from the north coast this morning to a mostly sunny afternoon, and easing to isolated showers over the southern inland later today. Scattered showers for the northern and central inland, easing later. The chance of thunderstorms about the central north and along the coast. Early fog patches for the northern inland. Northeast to southeast winds in the east, strengthening along the southern coast, turning westerly north. Winds possibly reaching gale-force along parts of the southern coast later in the afternoon and evening. Northwest to southwest west of the ranges. Dangerous surf developing in the south later.Monday 18 AugustRain in the southeast, with moderate to heavy falls possible. The chance of showers through most other districts, although remaining fine in the far northwest. Cooler and fresh northwest to southwesterly winds, tending strong south to southeasterly in the southeast corner. Dangerous surf southern and central coast.Tuesday 19 AugustHigh likelihood of showers for central and southeast parts of the coast and eastern side of the ranges. Medium chance of showers for the remainder of the ranges, slopes and coast. Slight chance of showers over the southern inland. Fine on the north coast and in the far west. West to south winds, fresh to strong along the coast.Wednesday 20 AugustSlight to medium chance of showers along the coastal districts and northern ranges. Slight chance of showers over the northern inland.
