Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system crossing New South Wales is expected to intensify as it moves off the central NSW coast Sunday night and during Monday then is forecast to move away to the east on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a ridge of high pressure will extend from a high pressure systems south of the Bight, across Tasmania to the south Tasman Sea. The high will drift eastwards on Tuesday and will be centred over Tasmania late Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayPatchy rain over the northwest clearing overnight. Patchy drizzle developing about the Gippsland ranges this evening. Local fog patches developing in the south tonight. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds.Sunday 17 AugustAreas of rain in the east, becoming more extensive over central and eastern Gippsland during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers and drizzle patches over remaining southern districts, but dry over the northwest. Snow developing on Alpine peaks above 1700 metres. A cool and generally cloudy day with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Monday 18 AugustWidespread rain over Gippsland with local heavy falls possible. Areas of rain extending into parts of central Victoria with just a little patchy rain developing elsewhere. Snow falls on the Alps above 1700 metres. Cool and mostly cloudy with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds, reaching strong to gale force about the Alpine peaks..Tuesday 19 AugustAreas of rain over Gippsland easing during the day. Isolated showers over remaining southern and western districts, but dry over the northeast. A cool day with light to moderate southerly winds, fresh during the morning about the East Gippsland coast and eastern ranges.Wednesday 20 AugustScattered showers over east Gippsland. Isolated showers over remaining southern and mountain districts, mostly near the coast. Cool in the south, but a little milder north of the divide with generally light southeast to southerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Sunday.Product IDV10310
