Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 15/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system east of Bass Strait extends a ridge across Bass Strait to the Bight. The high will gradually move east across the Tasman Sea during the weekend as a low pressure system over South Australia moves east to southeast across New South Wales. The low is expected to deepen as it moves off the southern coast of NSW on Monday then move away to the east on Tuesday as the next high pressure system approaches Tasmania.
Forecast for the rest of FridayMostly clear, just some patchy rain developing over the far northwest during the afternoon and evening. Light winds.Saturday 16 AugustEarly frost and fog patches over the east and south. Patchy rain over the northwest, more extensive over the northern Mallee. Patchy drizzle about the southern slopes of the ranges during the afternoon. Mainly dry elsewhere. A cool and mostly cloudy day with generally light southeasterly winds.Sunday 17 AugustAreas of rain across the far north and east becoming more extensive over central and eastern Gippsland during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers elsewhere. Snow developing on Alpine peaks above 1500 metres. A cool and generally cloudy day with moderate south to southeasterly winds.Monday 18 AugustWidespread rain over Gippsland with local heavy falls possible. Areas of rain likely over central areas and the northeast, possibly extending to western districts in the afternoon and evening. Snow falls above 1500 metres. Cool and mostly cloudy with moderate to fresh south to southeasterly winds.Tuesday 19 AugustAreas of rain over Gippsland easing during the day. Isolated showers elsewhere in the east and south contracting to the south in the afternoon and mostly clearing at night. Dry with cloudy periods over the northwest. A cool day with light to moderate southerly winds, fresh during the morning about the East Gippsland coast and eastern ranges.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Saturday.Product IDV10310
