MELBOURNE - Aug 14/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system lying just west of Bass Strait is moving slowly eastwards and will cross Bass Strait on Friday, reaching the Tasman Sea Friday night. Meanwhile a low pressure trough will develop over northwestern NSW on Friday then deepen into a low pressure system as it slowly moves east to southeast across NSW during the weekend. The low is expected to deepen as it moves off the southern coast of NSW on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayFine. Patchy cloud in the south and clear in the north. A cool evening with light winds.Friday 15 AugustEarly frost and fog patches inland then a mostly fine day. Patchy rain developing over the far northwest during the afternoon and evening. A cool day with generally light winds.Saturday 16 AugustPatchy rain over the northwest, more extensive over the northern Mallee. Mainly dry elsewhere with only the chance of drizzle about the exposed coast and eastern highlands. Morning fog patches in the south. A cool and mostly cloudy day with a light wind tending southeasterly.Sunday 17 AugustAreas of rain across the far north and east. Patchy rain developing over central areas later but only isolated showers in the west. Snow on Alpine peaks above 1600 metres. A cool and generally cloudy day with moderate southeasterly winds.Monday 18 AugustWidespread rain over Gippsland and patchy rain likely over central areas and the northeast. Isolated showers in the west and on the northern plains.
