MELBOURNE - Aug 14/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system southeast of the Bight is slowly moving east extending a ridge along New South Wales north coast and to the eastern Coral Sea and a low is forming within a trough over the northwest of the state in response to an upper-level system approaching from the west. The low will move over the western Tasman Sea Sunday night and deepen before moving rapidly east towards New Zealand during Wednesday as another high pressure ridge develops over southeastern Australia. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayShowers on the northern half of the coast and adjacent ranges, mainly along the coastal fringe. Rain developing in the northwestern inland with possible thunderstorms. Partly cloudy elsewhere. East to southeasterly winds.Friday 15 AugustWidespread rain in the far west, with moderate to heavy falls possible extending to central districts late in the day or overnight. Isolated showers on the northern and central coastal fringe. The chance of thunderstorms in the northwest. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Saturday 16 AugustPartly cloudy on the far north coast. Widespread rain elsewhere with moderate to heavy falls possible, easing in the northwest later. The chance of thunderstorms in the northwestern inland. Northeasterly winds freshening and tending southwesterly in the west.Sunday 17 AugustWidespread rain easing in the far west. Moderate to heavy falls possible about the ranges and coast. The chance of thunderstorms in the northeast. Southwest to northwest winds tending east to northeasterly in the southeast.Monday 18 AugustPartly cloudy in the west and on the far north coast. Rain on the south coast with possible moderate to heavy falls. Showers elsewhere.
